Woody Herman Jazz Award -
The Woody Herman Jazz Award® was created in 1988, shortly after Herman's death, to honor outstanding jazz students.
Louis Armstrong Jazz Award -
The Louis Armstrong Jazz Award® was inaugurated in 1974 with the consent of his widow shortly after this great jazz artist died in 1971. It honors the outstanding jazz musician at each high school.
Director's Band and Choral Award- Band-
The Director's Award is given to one graduating 8th Grade band and choir member who will be moving on to the high school band and choir. This award is given for the similar aspects as the Sousa Award, musicianship and dedication to the band.
Fred Waring Choral Award-
The Fred Waring Director's Award for Chorus recognizes the talent and enthusiasm of outstanding choral members.
National Choral Award-
The National Choral Award is the highest honor for HS Choral performers. It recognizes the dedication and musical achievement of the top choral student.
The Patrick S. Gilmore Band Award-
This award was introduced in 1994 in honor of the legendary bandmaster and impresario. Patrick Gilmore (1829-1892) and his band joined General Burnside’s expedition to North Carolina in the Civil War. Gilmore also played for every president of his day, including Abraham Lincoln. This beautiful award honors outstanding high school band students and their achievements and commitment to the band. It may be used as a runner-up award to the John Philip Sousa Award.

Sousa Award-
The Sousa Award is a great honor given to one member of the band each year. This award is named after the late John Philip Sousa, a great American musician,composer and conductor. This award is given to honor the top student in the high school band, recognizing superior musicianship and outstanding dedication. It was created with the approval of Helen Sousa Albert and Priscilla Sousa, daughters of the famous composer and bandmaster.
The Matt Tayler Award-
The Tayler Award was introduced in 2011 in honor of Matthew Tayler, a student in the North Newton High School Band. This award is named after the late Matthew Tayler, a great student who cared so much about music and about the music program Mr. Redlin was building. His life was music; and it was taken too early from this world. This award is presented annually to honor the top student in the high school band, recognizing superior leadership, work ethic, heart and outstanding dedication.
